A time for remembrance this Memorial Day weekend

I think all too often Memorial Day's true meaning is somewhat obscured by the fact it's the unofficial kick-off to summer and a three day weekend.

It's a time for families and friends to get together and enjoy some fun and barbecue, or gather at the shore and catch some rays.

For me Memorial Day weekend takes on a different meaning. It was two years ago that me and the wife got married. Officially we were married on May 29th, but we celebrate it on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

So for me there is another reason to be somewhat distracted by what Memorial Day truly signifies, but my goal is to do a better job and set aside some time this holiday weekend to select on all the sacrifices soldiers' past and present have made for all of us to enjoy the freedoms that we honestly often take for granted.

This Memorial Day I hope as we are out celebrating with families that we recall the people who have given their lives so we can get to and celebrate with loved ones and friends.

If you have any pictures you'd like us to feature on our website or Facebook page please email them to me at bmccready@nhregister.com We'd love to see them and display them.

Have a safe weekend.
