Milford Duck Pond footbridge gated off
The footbridge to the island at the Milford City Hall Duck Pond has been
blocked off about three years. The island was a popular site for
picture-taking by wedding parties and prom-goers.
Public Works Director Bruce Kolwicz on Wednesday said it was after a rainstorm that the city decided to bar access to the island. A major portion of the land has been washed away, he said.
He is working with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on ideas to stabilize the land. He was worried, he said, about people’s safety. While no one fell in, people were “getting very, very close to the edge,” he said.
Meanwhile, the wedding parties and prom-goers have been using the Green, beaches and other picturesque areas for their keepsake photos.
