Milford aldermen to vote tonight on health insurance pact

Tonight the Milford Board of Aldermen is expected to vote on a new health insurance contract with its current provider Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Last month city officials were exploring a change to Cigna, which officials said would save taxpayers $1.9 million annually.

However, union officials expressed concern, and Mayor Ben Blake renegotiated with Anthem and while the savings are not $1.9 million the city will still save more than $1 million annually, and the union employees will be pleased that they will not lose their current coverage.

Is this a good compromise? I will be covering the meeting tonight and will file a story tonight for the website.

What do you think about the issue?
