Representatives from Macys, Rave Cinemas,
Milford Police Department and Target.

The Milford Police Department hosted a Retailers Awareness Forum on Nov. 7 in order to help retailers prevent thefts during the holiday season.

Areas retailers and the Police Department decided to develop a retailer consortium to address concerns regarding crime, safety and security issues affecting local stores, said Officer Jeffrey Nielsen, police spokesman.

Several agencies participated in the event.

-The United States Secret Service showed retailers how to detect counterfeit currency.

-Macys and Target Department Stores presented information about organized retail crime.

-The Milford Police Department gave a presentation on crowd management and partnerships between law enforcement and retailers.

The Westfield Connecticut Post Mall and Milford Chamber of Commerce promoted the event and Rave Cinemas donated one of their theaters and refreshments for attendees.

Retailers interested in joining the consortium can contact the Milford Police Department at (203) 874-2366 or email crime1@ci.milford.ct.us for more details.
