Milford lawmaker hosts Joseph A. Foran at the State Capitol

HARTFORD, CT -- State Senator Gayle S. Slossberg (D-Milford) welcomed students and parents from her district Wednesday to the opening of the Connecticut General Assembly's 2013 Legislative Session at the State Capitol. The students attend Joseph A. Foran High School in Milford, and are engaged participants in local politics. They witnessed the opening of session in the Senate Chamber before being recognized on the Senate floor by Senator Slossberg.

“These young men and women all have bright futures ahead of them,” said Senator Slossberg. “Their civic awareness and sense of social responsibility are inspiring, and it is heartening to think that these students may one day be leaders in our state and beyond.”

As Co-Chair of the General Assembly's Human Services Committee, Senator Slossberg will play an important role in coming debates on the budget and mental health services. She expressed hope that the goodwill and cooperation of opening day will color legislative debate throughout the session.

“I was most pleased by the spirit of cooperation and bipartisanship that is palpable in the building,” said Senator Slossberg. “I look forward to working with my colleagues and being an independent voice for my constituents as we work to accomplish our priorities in the coming session.”
