Milford experiences big spike in construction projects



Permitting Activity August 2012
In August 2012, the City of Milford issued 114 building permits with a construction value of $3,296,096.  This does not include 194 electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits with a construction value of $180,292.

The majority of August construction activity was residential.  Notable commercial projects included $221,000 in renovations at Cumberland Farms at 1023 Boston Post Road and $75,000 for renovations for State Farms insurance offices at 1 New Haven Avenue.  In addition, the indoor swimming pool for LA Fitness at the Connecticut Post Mall received a permit.  The work is estimated at $75,000.

In July 2012 the City of Milford issued 85 building permits with a construction value of $3,106,332. 
In June 2012 The City of Milford issued 130 building permits with a construction value of $4,718,881.
In May 2012 The City of Milford issued 127 building permits with a construction value of $ $3,791,349.51.
In April 2012 The City of Milford issued 128 building permits with a construction value of $5,399,558. 

Economic Activity
Total Mortgage Services based in Milford, CT was recently named to Inc. Magazine’s 2012 Inc. 5000 list of America’s Fastest Growing Companies for the third consecutive year. The Inc. 5000 ranks the country’s top 5000 fastest-growing, private companies. Total Mortgage ranked 2,430 on the annual list with a three year growth-rate of 100 percent. The company also was named the 44th fastest growing company within the Real Estate category across the U.S. and one of the top workplaces in the Small Business Category of a survey done by Workplace Dynamics for the Hearst Connecticut Newspapers.
The Well Seasoned Nest, LLC, has leased 1,600sf at 158 Research Dr.  They are also leasing two adjacent 800sf units with some office space and the balance warehouse space to house their extensive inventory.  The Well Seasoned Nest has a large array of outdoor items from bird houses to many different and unique garden ornaments.  The owner is Karen M. Fitzgerald, the landlord D’Amato Investments and the realtor is Bill Clark, senior VP at the Geenty Group who put the deal together. 
Mark Anthony’s Pizza was approved to build a new restaurant at 475 New Haven Avenue.  The building will be of a Tuscan design seating 20. 
Coastal Cottage Consignment is located at 374 New Haven Avenue.

New apartments have been approved across from Milford Boat Works on the corner of High and Helwig.  Formerly an office building.

The Heberts have announced that they are selling their building, taking a job in Florida and moving from the area. Louise will be resigning as Executive Director as of Nov. 1.
Anthony Gargano’s State Farm Insurance Agency has leased 1,739sf at One New Haven Avenue.  The agency had formerly been located in Milford Plaza.
